Who we are

UN-POLAC was established as an International autonomous institution in 2001 with the UN and UNESCO following General Assembly resolution, declaring 2001 – 2010 as a decade of peace and non-violence.

UN-POLAC’s mandate is to enhance the effectiveness of the UN Sustainable development goals and UNESCO Culture of Peace Programme particularly the maintenance of peace and security and the restoration of human dignity.

UN-POLAC is a global organisation seeking world peace through individual participation as peace advocates and the involvements of Governments, NGO’s, agencies, corporate bodies and countries of the world to embark on ways and means of achieving global peace.

UN-POLAC has, as its name implies two main functions: TRAINING and RESEARCH

Goals of UN POLAC

  • To defend human rights and restore dignity to all persons.
  • To contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among groups and individuals through culture and education.
  • To enhance the position of family heads through recognition as Peace Advocates for proper family upbringing.
  • To recognize people (both late and alive) as legends to encourage present and incoming generations for peace and sustainable development.
  • To stimulate reactions in all spheres of life.

What we do

PROMOTING PEACE

Practitioners: - Fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, improving the health of mothers and children, supporting education and growing local economies directly builds the optimal conditions for peaceful societies. Educators: - Our POLAC peace centres have trained over 1300 peace fellows to become effective catalysts for peace through careers in government, education and international organization. Mediators: - Our members have negotiated humanitarian ceasefires in areas of conflicts to allow vaccinators to reach children who are at risk. Advocacy: - Our members have an integral role as respected, impartial participants during peace processes and in post conflict reconstruction, connected, inclusive and resilient. The POLAC Action Group for Peace gives POLAC members opportunity to look for resources and support to advance peace efforts and turn ambitious ideas into life-changing realities. POLAC projects provide training that foster understanding and provide communities with the skills to resolve conflicts. POLAC creates environments of peace. As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that changes can have a global effect. We carry out service projects supporting peace fellowship and scholarship. Our thousands of members nationwide take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education and unequal distribution of resources
